Please note that the value of a wine is affected by the condition of a bottle and how it has been stored. Wines sold at commercial auction have been vetted by experts and are generally stored at a constant, humid, cool temperature, away from light, heat, temperature fluctuation and vibration. A wine with a low fill level, signs of seepage around the cork or torn label may be worth less than the average auction price.

While commercial auction averages and conditions allow you to set a solid estimated value, when it comes to the final sale price, charity auctions are a different market than commercial auctions and those prices people are willing to pay for the same wine may vary substantially, depending on the audience, cause and the overall feeling of generosity.
